Takamon Saigou- 1827-1877.
A samurai from the Satuma area, he led the imperalists from that area in their victory over the shogunate. He was responsible for the bloodless claim of Edo castle during the Boshin Wars. He later became a politician under the new Meiji regime, but was ousted after a while. He then was drafted into the Seinan Wars. He committed suicide after losing that war.
Seinan no Eki- Another way to refer to the Seinan Wars.
Akamazeki- An old way to refer to the Shimonoseki area.
Shimonoseki- A city located at the South West corner of modern day Yamaguchi prefecture.
Sekimazeki- I would assume this was Akamazeki, as you can read the kanji for red as "seki."
Tengu- A mythical creature of Japan. It's a human-shaped master of wind with a long nose and red face. But, the term can also mean that you are full of yourself (typical usage in this fashion is saying that you've "become a tengu.")
