The first Yaminobu (western-based ninja, similiar to the Oniwabanshu) ninja Kenshin runs across attacked Kenshin in an ambush as he walked back to Kohagi Inn. Despite all the ninja's efforts, he gets sliced in half by Battousai.

Yukishiro Tomoe
Full name:
Yukishiro Tomoe
As soon as Kenshin kills Rensato, Tomoe is standing in his path..silent. She says, "You really do cause a rain of blood to fall" and fainted from the sight of all the blood before her. If Kenshin left her at the scene, she might tell and his cover would have been blown but if he brings her with him, she may threaten the Chosun group's cover. He decided to bring her back to the inn.
Her intentions were to come to Kyoto from Edo to find her finance's killer. At first, the shogunate and Tomoe agree to form an allience. Later on, she finds herself in love with Battousai. The shogunate just wanted Battousai dead. They didn't care about Tomoe's changed feelings, so she is Battousai's new weak point. Tomoe thought she could take care of the situation herself so she goes to the Kekkai forest to where the rest of the ninjas reside.
She reaches the house where the leader, Tatsumi and the other ninja stay. They ask about Battousai's weakness but they know it's her.
"His kindness isn't suited for killing."

Nakajo

Nakajo
This Yaminobu ninja was encountered on the way through Kekkai Forest. The forest was picked for a few specific reasons.
- In the thickness of the forest, it's hard to see.
- There's a magnetic field in the forest for some reason.....
- The ninjas could bury their bombs easily.
- Mumyouni liked to stay up in high places. He could hang around up in the tree branches.
In addition, it was winter. The cold numbs Kenshin's sense of touch. Score one more for the ninjas!
Nakajo fights Battousai, but in the end Battousai cuts off one of his arm, throws it back, and says:
"You forgot something."
In the end, Nakajo pulls a rope attached to a bomb to wipe out Battousai's hearing and dies in the blast.

He puts up a good fight but in the end, he sacrifices himself to pull another bomb that makes Battousai's eyes go blind.

Sumita pushes Battousai into a tree where Mumyouni is hiding. He slices Battousai's back but Battousai counter attacks with a sword through Mumyouni's hand. He runs away, claiming he will get revenge.

Tatsumi performs his gofu baku on Battousai, hoping that will finish the already weak Battousai off. Tomoe realizes that she's the one who has caused so much death and decides she must prevent it from happening again. She shields Battousai to prevent Tatsumi from hurting him again but Battousai was blind and accidently stabs her.
