  • Shirojo shows up at the Kamiya dojo. He brings a message from Aoshi for Kenshin to come immediately to Kyoto so they agree to go.
  • Chou vs. Shougo (Shougo wins)
  • Kenshin goes to visit Hyoue, the man who failed to inherit the hiten succession technique. Hyoue tells Kenshin that Shougo is going to create a Holy Land in Shimabara and that Shougo plans to kill more people. He asks Kenshin to stop Shougo, then dies of illness.
  • Kenshin sees Shougo standing in a clearing. Shougo tells Kenshin to meet him Shimabara.
  • Everyone goes to Shimabara...
  • Sano and Kenshin go exploring, and Kaoru and Yahiko are being spied upon by some kids. When the kids make muffled noises, Kaoru and Yahiko go to investigate. One of the kids attacks Kaoru and another attacks Yahiko. Yahiko gets angry and chases the kid. Kaoru finds a medallion and a cave entrance.
  • While in the cave, Kaoru comes across skulls and Shougo.
  • Kenshin and Sano are in the same cave searching for the Holy Chapel that the Christians have kept hidden.
  • Shougo and Kaoru talk about morality and history.
  • Shougo and Kenshin fight. Kenshin loses - Shougo leaves.
  • Amakusa Shougo plots the downfall of the Meiji government through the instigation of a civil war. He urges his followers to become Martyrs for the Christian cause and to lay down their lives.
  • Shougo and Kenshin meet up again and fight. Amakusa accidently gets shot during the fight. Shougo realizes that he can't even protect the people he loves so he gives up and goes to Holland with 88 of his followers.
